Frequently Asked Questions:

I get a message "Initialization Failed" on startup
When starting iPrescribe you see a message "Failed to execute SQL ......file is encrypted or is not a database". This is an error that some of our subscribers have seen after updating to iOS 5. To fix this follow these steps:

  1. Remove iPrescribe from your Apple device and reinstall it. Todo this hold your finger down over the iPrescribe icon until it wiggles. Then touch the black X that appears. Open the Appstore application and search for iPrescribe. Install it, there is no additional charge.
  2. Register again using your same DEA #. You will be connected back to your original account with the same subscription as before.
  3. Sync your patients and favorites back to your iPhone/iPod/iPad using the sync button located on the Patients List tab.

The phone says my DEA or NPI is already used at another location
Surescripts, our e-prescribing partner regulates the use of DEA and NPI numbers in their network. If you use another e-prescribing solution then your DEA # is probably registered to another provider. In this case you can only receive refill notifications with that provider or us but not both. Try scrolling to the bottom of the "My Info" screen and changing the "Messaging" options from "New Prescriptions and Refills" to "New Prescriptions Only" then re-register.

How do I report my use of iPrescribe to Medicare
You should use g-code G8553 to report the use of iPrescribe when you provide services to a patient.

The phone says "Invalid DEA or NPI number" but I know its valid
Your DEA number is registered to a specific address. We validate that the city and state where your DEA number is registered match the information provided to us in the My Info screen. Check that you correctly spelled the city where your DEA number is registered. This is configured under the Clinic Address.

Can I add new medications or pharmacies?
It isn't currently possible for us to allow editing or adding of new medications. We require the medication's NDC and other information in order to communicate the proper medication to Surescripts. If you have a medication you would like to see added please send us an email. Also, if the pharmacy is not listed in our database it isn't possible to deliver an electronic prescription. Our pharmacy database comes directly from Surescripts and so is the complete list of all supported pharmacies.
